about your romanisation

[编辑]

Hello, as far as I know, romanisation is not allowed here beccause we dont have an official one. But in order to tell the prononciation, we use IPA system here. About the wikidictionany, you wanna make a Wu-English one or you just want to add wu translation to mandarin-english dic? Amor 2008年12月18日 (礼拜四) 13:29 (UTC)amor

about zhuyinfuhao

[编辑]

well the problem is not political...its that wu is mainly used in wu region in mainland and we dont have the tradition to use zhuyin fuhao and nobody knows it, even it is a effecive way to spell. At the moment IPA is the best way...you know thru6 years we still are not able to have an agreement on which romanisation system should be used as an official one. 1. I had modified it a little bit and moved to Montigny重型葡萄弹枪械 on your request
  2. I absolutely liked what you have been doing, please do not stop adding bopomofo
this article is actually started by you——大仲马—— i could not get the bopomofo right 、
and his son who has the same name:小仲马
  3. I can remember that when 吴语维基 was formed in 2006 -- there was a discussion about foreign names, the concensus then was (if not sure) to use English or French (transliteration if necessary), so other people might help later, but i can not find the record of that discussion any more
  4. there is a vocabulary called 《联合国译员口译词汇》 -- 《Vocabulary for U.N. interpreters》, you can find/download it online, that translates a lot of foreign words, although in Mandarin, that might help you to find ideas
  5. also as an echo to Amor's comments about zhuyinfuhao -- as much as i know, in Wuu speaking region NOWADAYS there is no one who is both able and willing to TEACH it to younger generations, so it stays within the boundary of language academies。。。

Bopomofo

[编辑]

i am not enthusiastic about IPA at all - but it seems every body else here was convinced that is "the linguistic experts' choice

the reason i am also keen to learn bopomofo at the moment is that i am thinking one day i might need to get a job teaching chinese in thailand - and there are KMT sponsored schools there that teach bopomofo, you might know much better than me..

if you are so confident that BPMF can represent every possible syllable in wu, please keep this page (b4 its deleted) and proove you points by checking with some of the characters in the list.

at the bottome of JamesCampbell article there is the url for his page. i like every thing there except those 12 or 13 or 21 or 34 or 53 tune notes. what is that, i can not imagine how those syllables can be pronounced, Chieu chow has 7 tunes that's complicated enough - but there got to be a better way of marking those tunes

perhaps you can think about something one day !!? bopomofo might or might not be able to marke such complicated sounds (I think).

yet that's only for Shanghainese, not the Wu as the bunch of a dozen dialects 。 。 。

i found the page last night from Mr. 吉姆斯•康普班勒's web page. BTW, i think you owe me 50 cents :)) any way, do not stop what you are doing, all is good ! i hope one day can see you develop a Wu sound noting system that better anything else !!

sort order

[编辑]

Hi,
have a look at this category, i think articles are already sorted by radicals. I personally do not like that order but its the default. I think if you would like to sort by English alphabetical order you got to add meta tags or something.

Ask Hercule to help you or go to ZH wiki new users question page if he can not help you.

Cyrillic

[编辑]

Well, I think that's probably the case, actually I remember telling you a couple of weeks ago Thai letter set can represent most (if not all) of the sounds in Wu even better. Perhaps we can add a subset of Khmer letter for betterment. Why not give it a go ? At least they are all Asian !!??

The verdict is if we live in 1960s, there is a better chance of using Cyrillic, at least Russian language was prefered skill for young pple to acquire at that time. but now all the (known) resources use latin letter based system (inc. Vietnamese and that infamous pin-yin) - too hard and too late to make any change

How good is a system that beats everything else, but nobody was able to teach ?? Fine, if you just want to research. I still wanted to learn Zhu-yin, because I thought one day I might get a job teaching in a KMT school in north thailand, so I am thinking "politically" after all . . .

Obviously you care about the pronunciation, this article can

be good starting point for ya research, I think in japanese also has the same topic, which they call 训读 and 音读. Thai alos have it but I do not know any example.

in case of 月球, since it is a scientific word, I intend to go for 文读。。。 but i can be wrong.

About Devnagari input system

Namaste! I had installed the system in the South Asian wikipedias. You can do it with some changes in monobook.js . Please check the monobook.js and translit.js there. Also, I want to learn how you installed the multi-script system in Chinese wikipedia (traditional and other scripts). Thanks.--Eukesh

mandarin or/and cantonese equivalent

[编辑]
  • if you want to know equivalent characters, i think they should be the same, open an account in chinese, paste in these character in one of your own page, then use the JTZ / FTZ button at the top of screen to view. you can even set region (China mainland, HKG, Singapore, Taiwan etc. etc.) if you wish.

after all, 3 are the same language, only spoken differently

Google Translate

[编辑]

Hi,
Just finished the 4th Google translated article. I think the quality is quite acceptable if articles are translated from simple English rather than common mature English (currently there are 51,000 simple English articles).

Yeah, the issues of You / Him / Her still exists we need to do a visual check before running translate programme; and spend some time to do the editing afterwards; that's common sense

simplified wuu

[编辑]

have you hit into problems when the simplified characters had radicals deliberately changed to indicated

I totally agree, simplified char. is bad in so many ways (like tean-age pregnancy), i just do not know where to start and how to start so i certainly appreciate your try.

to me, its a bit too late, somebody raised many more questions than you 20 years ago; i wish the situation was never allowed to continue till today .

      大西洋鲑 2009年2月25日 (礼拜三) 04:40 (UTC)

          simplifying wuu

          [编辑]

I think now the title had become more appropriate like this. you can say all chinese need 2 use letters like thai and korean and japanese (most times they use katakana) do. what we need is a good missionary to understand the language well, then invent something based on min-nan or vietnamese or thai. In VN they spent long time trying to learn chinese but only a few can do well, then the war. a few years of french rule, then kanji is history. today lots of 8 year old VN boys and girls write (with hand) beautiful scripts blah blah.

my opinion is that if you eventually become that missionary. you have my vote. if you can revolutionize cantonese language as well, you get my double vote. , but i am too old. kanjis are not quick & easy to learn but i have done the learning, and have not problem reading (if articles are not too difficult to understand). so thank you very much.

if a trend can be started outside of china, and bring some meaningful influence, good indeed, i will love it / start learning it.

Hanzi / Kanji list

[编辑]

Hi,
how do you think about this list, the first column is in Wu, second mandarin and third English; I can add more into the list if that helps your robot development.

& just curious, where is that 词堂 at the right -- you home ??

阿拉斯加鲑 2009年3月8日 (礼拜天) 09:36 (UTC)

        [编辑]
Yes, they are so expensive, at least you once thought about about doing it at home, I never did. I just went to one near my home - its free.

About, kanjis, yes, there is one-2-one mapping between traditional char. and simplified char. // either mandarin or Wuu.

You may copy every character under this category heading, past them into your mandarin user talk page, then hit these buttons : 简体 // 繁體 // 大陆简体 // 港澳繁體. whawlar ! You get all of them converted in no time, NO NEED TO WRITE PROGRAMME.

However, once you decide to write a conversion program, you got to be careful; & make sure :

            traditional Wuu → siplified Wuu

            traditional mandarin → siplified Wuu

            siplified mandarin → siplified Wuu

just sharing some thoughts : right now I am thinking it is better to make an english → Wuu conversion programme !! 阿拉斯加鲑2009年3月10日 (礼拜两) 08:00 (UTC)

xiang ??

[编辑]

good to know that you are still interested in it !!

it was totally interesting to me that you think i can contribute anything to this wiki.

actually i had a nanny at the age of 5 to 6. she is from Hunan province, ate spicy foods and speak with an accent. -- that's all about know about it. yeah - actually i have climbed a moutain of Hunan, forgot about the name but its 200 kilometres south of ChangSha. and i did not speak to food vendors, some one in our group did so i missed the only other chance as well.

I remember saying the only person who can write anything in xiang is mao tse tung but he is history hahaha !!

      [编辑]
I can figure out that is mandarin rules ! NO DIFFERENCE ! or perhaps one day i may ask a child of my nanny (can not meet her again, she passed away) - then i will go there to make some "contribution" - ok !!

now i think i need to take back what i believed b4, only Mao Tse Tung may contribute to xiang !! but without any difference to mandarin, what is the point of starting a new wiki then ???
